Share What You Love Hexagon Box by Stampin’ With Pixie. Made using products from the Stampin’ Up! Share What You Love Suite. Read on for the details.
This was one of those projects that just gets away from you. Ever had one of those? The box design is by Crafty Caroline. You can find the video tutorial here. I thought the Share What You Love Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) was just perfect for an hexagon box. In the end it was but it took me multiple tries. I’m still not too happy with the lid decorations but that’s how it goes sometimes.
Box Construction Tip
Crafty Caroline’s tutorial is really good. One thing especially brilliant is her idea to put ribbon spools in the box while you are gluing it together. This helps the box hold its shape as you secure the flaps so there is no twisting or misalignment. Amazingly – the box holds 4 of the 1/4″ – 1/2″ spools! This is a big box and will hold a good size gift or many goodies.
I can’t decide if the decorations look like a succulent garden. Not my intent but oh well. Notice the shimmer on the flower leaves. This is an example of the beautiful pearlized images featured throughout this DSP. It’s really hard to capture on camera as is the pearlized effect on the paper doily.
Fussy Cut Foliage
The flowers and foliage on the box lid are all fussy cut from the DSP. They are the same flowers and foliage featured on the DSP sheet used to make the box bottom. I mixed and matched some of the flowers to create the layers and used my bone folder to slightly bend the petals for a 3D effect. I layered several flowers and leaves to create an arrangement. The Tinted Faceted Buttons add bling and interest. You know how I feel about bling. Gotta have it. I love these buttons so much I ordered multiple packs.
Doilies and Ribbon
The lid is constructed from Pear Pizzazz Cardstock. To add weight and strength to the lid, I layered a Pearlized Doily on a Rich Razzleberry Cardstock scalloped circle cut using a Layering Circle Framelit. Before adhering it to the box, I used a piercing tool to punch a hole in the center of the lid and the center of the layered doily. After gluing the layered doily on the lid and allowing the glue to dry, I created the handle using a bit of Rich Razzleberry 1/4″ Velvet Ribbon.
That’s all it takes to make this cute hexagon box. Use it as a gift or goodie box. You can also use it to store jewelry or organize your desk.
